FAMILY MATTERS is a 30m monthly programme for families, presented by
Family Works Hastings.
Who is Family Works?
We are the Social Work division of Presbyterian Support East Coast.
What do we do?
We are social workers and we support families through crisis and help them to make
the changes necessary in their lives to better protect and care for their
children and themselves. Sometimes they need to make changes when they are at
their most vulnerable. We can help by supporting them to do what they need to do. We can wrap a number of services
around the family to address their needs. These can be as diverse as making sure they can access budget services,
health services, A&D services, counselling, and many more. We can support the family through major
changes in their lives and can help to ensure those changes are good and are sustainable.
How do we do this work?
We have a competent team of social workers and their job is to support families so
that they can respond appropriately to their children’s needs for care,
development and safety.
Our service is child-centred, family-focused and a community connected response to increasing need.
Vision
Our children are safe and they succeed in our communities
Our young people are safe and do not offend or harm themselves or others
Our parents and caregivers are well informed and capable of providing the best care they
can to keep their children and young people safe and protected from harm
and offending.
Why are we doing this work?
The costs of not doing the work that builds healthy and strong families, communities and ultimately our nation, is too great to consider.
On behalf of all New Zealanders, we do this work in an effort to change attitudes and values towards our children and young people, to each
other, all of which are reflected in family violence in one form or another.
We are involved in planning a better future for our kids, for their families and for our community working alongside our kids and families and communities.
Family Matters is a programme about all of us and what we can do to make sure our kids are safe and cared for and grow to meet their potential.
