GET OUT THOSE OLD RECORDS

with Geoff Herbert
Sundays, 4:00pm to 4:30pm

I first became interested in early dance bands, film musicals, songbirds, and songwriters after watching a BBC TV series in 1978 called "Pennies from Heaven" written by Dennis Potter. In this series, Potter included popular songs from the 1930s played by well-known British dance bands like Henry Hall, Ambrose, Roy Fox, Jack Hylton and DeBroy Somers.

I also enjoy crooners from the 50s and 60s like Dean Martin, Marty Robbins and Ricky Nelson along with the close-harmony groups such as The Four Preps, The Chordettes and The Beach Boys. Barbershop singing is another passion of mine, and I collect music and film of Broadway shows and musical comedy from the Golden era.

Be sure to listen on Sunday each week at 4.00pm when we 'get out those old records, the ones we used to play so long ago' ... any comments, requests or suggestions are welcome and you can email me anytime.
