THE JOHNNY-G CRUISIN' SHOW

Every Monday, from 10:30pm-11:30pm

Hi, I'm Johnny,

I'm from England (about 40 miles outside London) and have been a lifelong lover of 1950s music, particularly rockabilly & doowop, since my teens - despite not being born in that decade. I was grabbed by the music when I first heard it and it never let go! Since the advance of technology and the vast increase in my collection I have been sharing this with listeners around the world for the last 10 years and currently have a weekly show on a community radio station in the south of England playing doowop (or rhythm & blues vocal harmony to use its real term) and for most of the last 10 years have also been playing a mix of rockabilly & doowop, with a few forgotten Top 40 classics, on one of the earliest oldies internet stations coming out of Southern California.

The amazing thing I've found over the years is how infectious this music can be to those who have never heard it. Nearly everyone I've introduced it to really seems to love it, regardless of age! Sadly there are few outlets for it these days and modern commercial stations the world over just ignore it. Contrary to some opinion this music never died!

I'm extremely happy to bring my collection to Hawkes Bay and the listeners of Radio Kidnappers and will feature a wide mixture of rockin' & doowoppin' classics & rarities from the 1950s and early 60s together with occasional more recent bands & singers still keeping the great music alive. I've always been willing to play tracks by any new rock & roll or doowop groups & singers who would like any airplay so if that's you then you're welcome to send me a track or two on mp3s.

All messages are welcome and especially if you'd like something played any week, so don't forget to drop me a line, it'll be a pleasure to play you a song.

And don't forget your dancin' shoes!
