Following my retirement, and after listening to Radio Kidnappers for a few months, I decided to take advantage of the Station's offer for me to present my own programme. I have a lot of good music which I thought would be nice to share with listeners who have similar likings.
It didn't take me long to get two sponsors to share the $20 cost for the half-hour. After some technical training and a dummy-run, my first programme got under way on 2nd May 2006.
During the first few months of becoming familiar with the equipment, I had a few technical hitches - like occasionally forgetting to switch my microphone on, or pressing the wrong buttons on the CD players. (Doing only 30mins each week, it's easy to forget the lessons of the previous week!) I was reassured to hear that nearly every broadcaster makes these mistakes at first, and I am pleased to report that my programme these days usually goes without a hitch.
Because I love all of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's music, I initially dedicated the entire programme to his music, and it was known then as "The Wonderful World of Lloyd Webber". Early in 2007, I decided to widen the format to include a lot of the other music I love, including some humour as well as a little Dixie and Trad. Consequently I renamed the programme
"Popular Classics".
If you like my sort of music, and would like me to play a particular piece on my programme, please either phone the Station, or
Email me. If I've got the music, I'd love to play it for you.
Finally, I earnestly encourage other people to give radio a go, and do your own thing on air. The cost is affordable, and it's a rewarding challenge.
Kind Regards,
Fred.
If it's Popular Classics, Fred has a huge selction of them at his fingertips!
